Summary
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing an excellent customer experience in a team based environment while assisting in all aspects of medical practice under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for patient safety, performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, assisting in minor procedures, processing lab specimens, safe operation of medical equipment, provides patient instructions, and for handling and administering medications according to regulatory standards and organizational policy and procedure under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for the collection, communication and documentation of accurate patient information/data and maintaining medical records according to regulatory standards and organizational policies and procedures. Other responsibilities include coordinating requests for information and prescriptions, maintain and preparing patient care areas to ensure efficient, effective and safe patient care delivery. Late hours, holidays and weekends may be required. Other duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor of the department.

Responsibilities

Perform phlebotomy and point of care testing as required.

Assist in minor procedures and process lab specimens.

Safely operate medical equipment and provide patient instructions.

Handle and administer medications according to regulatory standards and organizational policies.

Collect, communicate and document accurate patient information and maintain medical records per regulatory standards.

Coordinate requests for information and prescriptions; maintain and prepare patient care areas for safe, efficient delivery of care.

Work flexible hours including late hours, holidays, and weekends as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a medical assisting program accredited to prepare for CMA/CCMA/RMA certification preferred.

Experience:

Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required for graduates within 2 years of completing an accredited medical assisting program. 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a physician's office or hospital outpatient department may be accepted in lieu of degree/diploma.

License:

Not Required

Certifications:

CMA/CCMA/RMA preferred. BLS (American Heart Association) required to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Other:

Medical terminology, communication skills and basic computer knowledge; early/late hours and/or weekends may be required.
