Summary
Performs phlebotomy procedures under minimal supervision to obtain venous and capillary blood specimens and other non‑invasive specimen collection for analysis. Electronically processes phlebotomy test orders and handles specimen labels in order to accurately collect specimens.
Responsibilities
Communicates effectively with patients, family members, and all patient care and hospital staff.
Notifies the Lead Tech of any accidents or injuries immediately.
Communicates openly and honestly on all issues related to section operations in an age‑appropriate manner.
Performs technical phlebotomy procedures on outpatients ranging from pediatric to geriatric populations.
Demonstrates proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
Maintains a clean and stocked drawing tray and workstation.
Ensures appropriate specimen volume is collected and documents any unexpected events during collections.
Accurately labels each tube and reviews requisitions to eliminate missed tests.
Experience
Required: 1‑3 years of phlebotomy experience.
Education
Preferred: High School diploma or GED.
Licenses and Certifications
Phlebotomy Technician certification
Basic Life Support certification
Other Qualifications
Maintains current phlebotomy certification and completes all mandatory training courses.
