Overview
Unit Clerk/Certified Nursing Assistant (UC/CNA) at NorthBay Health is responsible for general clerical and reception duties, and for the delivery of assigned patient care duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional nurse. The UC/CNA uses the Jean Watson Nursing Theory of Caring and the Relationship Based Care Model to assist patients in accordance with their functional and developmental needs. The role supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.
Responsibilities
Performs treatments within scope of nursing assistant practice.
Documents care provided on appropriate records.
Reports change in patient condition to licensed professional nurse.
Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients, self and co-workers; reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
Transports patients via wheelchair or gurney between hospital departments and assists ambulatory patients between departments.
Performs Safety Attendant duties as directed.
Utilizes effective verbal and written communication with patient and family, physicians, and all other members of the healthcare team. Provides hand-off communication when relieved of duties and/or at shift change.
Acknowledge individual responsibility for appropriate use of resources including equipment and supplies.
Actively participates in and contributes to NorthBay programs and/or initiatives designed to maximize the return on organization financial resources through improvements and service delivery, reduction in expenses, and/or optimization of revenue.
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of certified program for CNAs.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Course in medical terminology preferred.
Licensure
Valid and current California CNA certificate.
Current AHA or equivalent CPR certification.
Experience
Previous unit clerk, clerical and/or one-year experience as CNA in an acute care setting preferred.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the Geriatric, Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric age groups.
Skills
High level of initiative and independent work skills.
Basic computer skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Interpersonal Skills
Interacts with patients, staff and visitors in a pleasant, cooperative, and courteous manner.
