Position Overview
Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban‑serving education, is one of twenty‑three colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) System. Position Description and Duties
The Department of Biology seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Microbiology. Responsibilities include:
Teaching undergraduate courses in Microbiology and related biology courses, including multiple‑section general biology.
Developing course content and curricula that incorporate evidence‑based educational practices.
Establishing an active research program, involving undergraduate students, and obtaining extramural funding.
Providing student mentoring and advising.
Actively participating in departmental, school, college, and university‑wide activities.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent degree with demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate biology.
Graduate degree in microbiology, with up‑to‑date molecular expertise.
Postdoctoral experience or five years of relevant work experience is preferred.
Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals and proven grant‑writing ability.
Evidence of effective teaching, innovative pedagogy, and collaborative teamwork.
Commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education.
Compensation
$57,252 – $98,995 per year, commensurate with education and experience. CUNY provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. Faculty are supported for research, scholarship, and publication.
