General Description
Aligned with the NWRESD mission, this role provides educational programs and consultation to parents and community preschools and meets the individual needs of children with disabilities and special needs from birth to five years of age. Activities include teaching in self‑contained classrooms, home and family coaching, parent education, multidisciplinary team meetings, curriculum development, creation of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), assessment of progress, and program effectiveness.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required:
Current Oregon Teaching License through TSPC in early childhood, elementary, special education, or related field; or ability to obtain license within the specified timeline.
Previous experience working with children with special needs.
Valid Driver's License, available transportation, and proof of auto insurance.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Professionalism and effective human relations.
Regular collaboration with immediate supervisor.
Proficiency with computer and internet-based applications including email, Google Suite, and MS Word.
Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP).
Strong communication skills to work with students, parents, school and mental health personnel.
Effective student management strategies.
Essential Functions
Assess children for cognitive, personal‑social, and adaptive development; collaborate with a transdisciplinary team to develop and implement IFSPs; track progress.
Provide an appropriate learning environment and a developmentally appropriate curriculum covering cognitive, social, play, language, gross motor, fine motor, self‑help, and behavior through baby, toddler, and inclusive preschool groups.
Consult, educate, and support parents via home visits, day‑care visits, and community preschools; provide guidance to preschools and child‑care providers caring for children with special needs.
Occasionally conduct in‑service training for building staff, parents, or community providers.
Manage case‑management duties, including eligibility review, team reports, IFSP goal preparation, maintenance of required records, and potential referral to community resources. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
Provide direction, training, and oversight to educational assistants.
Perform other assigned duties.
