Main Purpose of Job
Full‑time position as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer tasked with conducting complex criminal and general investigations, enforcing Maryland laws, maintaining strict confidentiality, and preparing comprehensive investigative reports. The officer will implement crime scene procedures, retain evidence, conduct interviews and interrogations, and liaise with the Maryland State Police and other agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct thorough investigations and enforce all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Perform crime scene processing, evidence collection, and retention.
Prepare detailed investigative reports.
Interview, interrogate, and collaborate with Maryland State Police and other law‑enforcement entities.
Operate State vehicles and provide medical and judicial transports for forensic patients, maintaining a valid Maryland driver’s license.
Maintain Maryland Police and Corrections Commission certification and any required special police commission.
Adapt work schedule to shifts, weekends, holidays, and off‑hours as needed for investigative and operational requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or high‑school equivalency certificate accepted by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience:
Six months as a certified law‑enforcement officer.
Notes:
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service at the rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non‑commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
Must possess a current Police Officer certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
Eligible for recertification if previously certified within the past three years.
May be required to obtain a special police commission per Public Safety Article and related regulations.
Special Requirements
U.S. citizenship.
Minimum age of 21 years.
Pass a satisfactory background investigation, including criminal history check.
Complete oral interview and physical examination.
Maintain a valid driver’s license in Maryland.
Provide a reachable phone number for call‑in duties.
Demonstrate practical firearms knowledge and proficiency, with periodic training as required.
Undergo substance abuse testing per state regulations.
