Main Purpose of Job
This full‑time position serves as a full‑service police officer with managerial responsibilities for enforcing and ensuring that all subordinates enforce Federal, State, and local laws, including all policies and procedures of the MDH Police Department.

The officer enforces applicable laws, rules, and regulations in a fair, impartial, and equitable manner.

Provides guidance, training, directions, and recommendations for disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and counseling for all subordinates.

Conducts criminal and internal investigations as required or assigned by the MDH Police Department.

Supervised by the Police Manager, Executive Officers, and/or designee. All officers follow the chain of command: Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, Chief of Police.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.

Three years of experience supervising certified law enforcement officers.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications
The desired candidate should possess investigative specialized experience.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

Must possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

Applicants formerly certified by the Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and eligible for recertification at the time of appointment meet the certification requirement.

Employees may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-209.

Special Requirements

Selection standards for Police Officer certification are established by the Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207.

U.S. Citizenship
Must be at least 21 years of age
Background investigation, including a check of criminal history
Oral interview
Physical examination
Valid driver's license in the State of Maryland
Call‑in requirement: provide a reachable phone number
Firearms proficiency, as required by the Commission
Substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09
