3D Production Artist (VR/Simulation)
Kelly Services is seeking a full‑time 3D Production Artist (VR/Simulation) for a 6‑month engagement in Santa Clara, CA. The role includes the full benefits package offered to Kelly employees.
Key Responsibilities
Environment Creation
Build detailed 3D environments for training simulations, including anatomical spaces such as abdominal cavities and internal structures.
Support visual clarity and learning outcomes through thoughtful environment layout and lighting.
Asset Optimization
Optimize CAD models of surgical instruments for real‑time performance.
Ensure assets meet polygon budgets, texture standards, performance constraints, and naming conventions.
Materials & Texturing
Create high‑quality textures and PBR materials for all 3D assets.
Balance realism with performance to meet real‑time simulation requirements.
Model Preparation & Cleanup
Set accurate pivot points and origins for proper manipulation and animation workflows.
Create optimized collision meshes using Blender or a similar tool.
Configure lighting to support training clarity.
Engine Integration & Pipelines
Develop and maintain efficient import pipelines for Unreal Engine and Unity.
Collaborate with the team to streamline asset iteration and integration workflows.
Shader Development
Develop shaders to support skin deformation and define the visual style of the simulation environment.
Optimize shaders for performance in real‑time applications.
Creative & Design Support (Nice to Have)
Storyboarding and screen direction using sketches or 3D tools.
Wireframing in 2D (Figma) to support exercise flow and interaction design.
Required Qualifications
Software Proficiency
– Deep expertise with Maya, 3ds Max, and/or Blender.
Game Engine Experience
– Hands‑on experience with Unreal Engine and/or Unity, including importing, optimizing, and troubleshooting assets.
Real‑time Optimization
– Strong understanding of LODs, topology cleanup, texture efficiency, and shader performance optimization.
Technical Art Fundamentals
– Solid knowledge of PBR workflows, UV mapping, baking, rigging fundamentals, and real‑time asset integration best practices.
Artistic Sensibility
– Strong visual eye for lighting, shading, silhouette, and materials, with ability to balance realism, performance, and instructional clarity.
Collaboration & Process
– Comfortable working in an iterative design process and strong communication skills within cross‑functional teams.
