Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform phlebotomy - accessioning - and processing within the Ambulatory Care department under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager. The LPN/LVN will be assigned to the John J. Pershing VAMC - Sikeston VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The LPN/LVN is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care - positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.
Responsibilities
Perform phlebotomy, accessioning, and processing within the Ambulatory Care department under the supervision of the Nurse Manager.
Assist in coordinating care with the RN/MD and other healthcare staff to promote quality care and patient safety.
Document patient care and monitoring in the medical record.
Provide patient and family education as appropriate.
Support operational tasks and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or NLNAC accreditation.
Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted LPN/LVN licensure in the United States or DC; English language proficiency as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402/7407.
Experience: VA qualification standards for GS-3 to GS-6; six months of qualifying experience for GS-4 or one year for GS-5; GS-6 requires at least one year at GS-5 level.
Preferred: Minimum 2 years LPN experience in a PACT team setting, nursing home, in-home care, or hospice, and laboratory experience.
Physical Requirements
Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. The role requires potentially long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing up to 35 pounds in accordance with Safe Patient Handling requirements.
