Responsibilities
The Histology Technician is authorized to perform the following: Identify, log and maintain the integrity of specimens, maintaining files of slides and blocks.
Process, cut and stain tissue blocks.
Prepare and cut frozen sections.
Prepare cytological specimens.
Prepare reagents, stains and solutions.
Perform special procedures: Thin needle, lymph node clearing, decalcification.
Operate and maintain histology instrumentation.
Perform required quality control and maintenance.
May work without direct supervision.
Will comply with universal precautions and adhere to safety standards and practices.
May be assigned to other tasks and/or required to vary schedule to meet the needs of the laboratory and the patients.
Demonstrates commitment to the Gulf Coast Division Standards of Behavior.
