Our Rehabilitation and Nursing Center offers short‑term rehabilitation after surgery, serious injury or illness. We help patients with many different medical needs and conditions, including neuro recovery and treatment following stroke and brain injury; rehabilitation after elective total joint surgery or complex orthopedic surgery; reconditioning following severe illness; post‑cardiac and medically complex care; and rehabilitation for general needs.

Job Summary

As a member of the nursing team with Corewell Health, providing top‑notch patient care is paramount. You’ll be responsible for the care of our patients according to their individual plans, unit routines, and hospital policies. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you’ll be a vital part of our team, making a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
The responsibilities of this position include planning, implementing, conducting and evaluating appropriate activity opportunities for patients. This role supports the health care team in promoting therapeutic services and/or programs and is also involved in conducting or implementing community and hospital‑based programs or special events as designated.
Essential Functions

Provides direct patient care under the direction of the Unit Manager or Licensed Nurse, consistent with policies and procedures of the unit.
Responsible for direct day‑to‑day care of assigned residents/patients including dressing, bathing, transporting and feeding.
Documents care provided as directed in a manner consistent with guidelines.
Maintains patients’ environment, work area and equipment, and communicates any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department/unit personnel.
Completes and maintains required number of CNA educational hours.
Participates in select unit quality monitoring activities under the direction of the Unit Manager or Nurse Leader.
Conducts daily group and individual TR sessions in accordance with treatment goals and reports on content of sessions to direct report. Participates with planning group sessions, decorating and maintaining TR supplies and equipment.
Is knowledgeable of residents’ information and updates. Follows resident precautions and conducts TR intervention accordingly.
Assists with an ongoing evaluation of residents according to their background, activity interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for meaningful activity programs.
Contributes positively to the Recreation Therapy Team and keeps direct report informed of significant issues.
Ensures that required documents for activities within areas of responsibility are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completion of State of Michigan approved CNA Training Course.
Nursing Assistant – Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems within 90 days.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association 60‑day required OR Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Red Cross 60‑day required.
Driver’s License – State of Michigan within 60 days.
Preferred

Associate’s Degree in child life, child development, child psychology, early childhood education, recreational therapy or related degree.
1 year of relevant experience working with the appropriate population served and in the appropriate setting.
1 year of relevant experience program planning and development.
Familiarity with music, crafts, exercise and group leadership.
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Certified (CTRS) – National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification upon hire.
