Job Summary
Provides quality, evidence based athletic health to stakeholders across the sports medicine program. May support both clinical and outreach athletic training initiatives. Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive health care programs for patients, clients, and athletes. The practice of athletic training includes injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical assessment and impression, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being of individuals under the direction of a physician. Travel required.
Essential Functions
Triage patients as directed by physicians and other providers; provide patient instruction; collect and monitor patient data, reporting needs to physicians and providers; document care consistent with guidelines and chargeable items; administer medication and injections in accordance with licensure and policy.
Evaluate patient and athlete physical condition, response, and progress; discuss with appropriate physician, athletic trainer, or manager; interface with student athletes, parents, staff, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel for status exchange; observe and assist in fitting athletic equipment.
Oversee the operation of treatment headquarters at practice and game sites, including modalities, equipment, supplies, and cleanliness; maintain a safe environment, work area, and equipment; report any malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
Prepare players for practice and game by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging techniques, and overseeing the team warm‑up and flexibility period; cover practices and contests during preseason, regular season, and postseason as designated.
Collaborate with the team physician/lead athletic trainer/manager to plan, organize, and implement pre‑season (and post‑season) physical examinations of all players; determine medical clearance for return to competition.
Rehabilitate injured players or patients following athletic injury or surgery; follow from onset of injury through diagnosis, conservative or surgical procedures, and a reconditioning program to restore pre‑injury fitness or level determined by the team physician.
Read pertinent literature, attend meetings and educational classes, and participate in professional associations as appropriate.

Qualifications
Required
Required Bachelor's Degree or completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program within a bachelor's or master's program.
Preferred Master's Degree completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program within a bachelor's or master's program.
Successful completion of competency‑based orientation program.
No experience entry‑level experience with related and progressively more responsible experience in all aspects of athletic training.
CRT‑Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation (Upon Hire required).
LIC‑Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan (Upon Hire required).
CRT‑Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required or CRT‑Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required.
