Job Summary
Corewell Health is a non‑profit organization with more than 65,000 employees. We have athletic training positions available in beautiful Southwest Michigan, centrally located between Chicago and Detroit. The Athletic Training department currently covers 9 high schools and 2 community colleges. The Athletic Trainer will work closely with local physicians and 7 outpatient rehabilitation facilities to provide optimal care.
Essential Functions
Triage patients as directed by physicians and other providers; provide patient instruction; collect and monitor patient data; report patient data and needs; document care consistently.
Evaluate athletes’ physical condition, response, and progress; discuss findings with appropriate physician, Lead Athletic Trainer, or Manager; interface with student athletes, parents, staff, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel; observe and assist with fitting of athletic equipment.
Operate the treatment headquarters at practice and game sites; manage modalities, equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of athletic facilities and treatment areas.
Prepare players for each practice and game with exercise, preventive taping and bandaging, and oversee warm‑up and flexibility periods; may cover home and away practices and contests during pre‑season, regular season, and post‑season; keep open for out‑of‑season office hours; remain on 24‑hour call during designated times.
Work with the team Physician/Lead Athletic Trainer/Manager to plan, organize, and implement pre‑season (and post‑season when indicated) physical examinations of all players; determine when it is medically safe for an injured athlete to return.
Rehabilitate injured players from onset through surgical or conservative procedures; provide reconditioning program to restore pre‑injury fitness or level determined by the Team Physician.
Read pertinent literature; attend meetings; participate in professional associations and education classes as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, completing a CAATE‑approved athletic training education program within a bachelor’s or master’s program.
Preferred: Master’s Degree or equivalent, completing a CAATE‑approved athletic training education program within a bachelor’s or master’s program.
Successful completion of a competency‑based orientation program – required.
1 year of relevant experience in all aspects of athletic training – required.
CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified – BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation – required upon hire.
Licensed Athletic Trainer – Michigan (STATE_MI) – required upon hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross – 90 days required.
