The SOUTHEASTERN MENTAL HEALTH AUTHORITY (SMHA), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking an experienced and mission‑driven Clinical Social Worker (PCN 129216) to join and be a vital member of our Wellness Recovery Advocacy Program (WRAP) team in Norwich.
This is a unique opportunity for a skilled clinician to make a measurable difference in the lives of adults with significant mental health needs while contributing leadership to a high‑functioning, multidisciplinary community‑based team.
Position Highlights
Full‑time (40 hours/week), Monday - Friday
First shift, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Primary Location: 401 W. Thames St, Norwich, CT
Community‑based work supporting clients across Southeast Connecticut

What You Will Do
As a key member of the WRAP Team, you will provide both direct clinical services that support client stability, independence, and recovery.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Monitor client progress through ongoing clinical engagement and document all interactions in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
Accompany clients to community‑based appointments as clinically indicated, providing therapeutic support, advocacy, and coordination during treatment, housing, legal, or entitlement‑related proceedings.
Assist clients in accessing community resources by offering clinical guidance, problem‑solving interventions, and care coordination.
Maintain collaborative communication with conservators and representative payees to support clients’ recovery goals and ensure continuity of care.
Communicate with entitlement agencies (such as Social Security Administration and Department of Social Services) to assist clients through advocacy, documentation, and clarification of clinical needs impacting benefits.
Provide clinically informed support around independent living and entitlement‑related skills by using therapeutic interventions such as problem‑solving therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation.
Facilitate group and individual skill‑building sessions using evidence‑based clinical approaches to support recovery, coping skills, emotional regulation, and functional improvement.
Offer psychoeducation to clients and their families/significant others to enhance understanding of mental health conditions, treatment strategies, recovery planning, and community resources.

The Wellness Recovery Advocacy Program (WRAP) team is a recovery‑oriented, multi‑disciplinary community support program with a multidisciplinary clinical team. The program provides intensive, rehabilitative community support, crisis intervention, individual/group psycho‑education, peer support, medication management, linkages to other community‑based providers/services, coordination of services/care, and individualized skill building in activities of daily living in order to maximize each individual’s level of independence and functioning. The majority of services are provided to clients in the community and are personalized to meet the clients’ expressed needs and preferences.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in community‑based settings with clients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
Experience completing initial assessments for patients/clients with acute psychiatric and acute addictive problems.
Experience working with clients who are undergoing severe psychological distress and/or exhibiting behavioral dysregulation.
Special Requirements
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20‑195 (m‑z) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S.
1320a‑7b(f).
Incumbents in this class may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain designated positions.
Incumbents in this class may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain designated positions.
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
