The Role
The Advanced Clinical Social Worker in this position will be a member of the agency’s Outpatient team, which provides client‑centered behavioral health services in both community and office‑based settings, based on client needs.

Job Duties

Providing individual therapy, psychosocial and/or group psychotherapy and family counseling.

Perform psychosocial assessments upon intake of clients who are new to the agency.

Takes leadership to plan, develop, implement and evaluate integrated recovery plans for clients. Identifies appropriate interventions and goals to address deficits.

Performs risk assessment and develops risk plans to decrease risk.

Provides engagement and social skills training.

Performs discharge planning.

Independently represents the program at State and local hospitals, probate courts, and community settings.

Assists other team members in the development of recovery plans, may provide clinical consultation to team cases.

May provide supervision to other team members and students.

Provides leadership to the team in supervisor’s absence.

Ability to write clinical notes and administrative reports.

Ability to co‑lead work groups and agency committees.

Makes community visits to assess individuals in psychiatric emergency situations.

Participates in and facilitates team meetings.

Maintains accurate, up to date medical records.

Works collaboratively with community agencies to ensure integration of services.

Demonstrates an understanding of cultural diversity and fosters cultural sensitivity to client’s needs. Report incidents as delineated by WCMHN policy.

Provide CPR and first aid as necessary.

Observe all confidentiality and clients’ rights regulations.

Perform other duties as required.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)
In a state agency behavioral health program as part of a multi‑disciplinary team at one or more locations, this class is accountable for skilled clinical social work treatment and leadership services involving complex case assignments.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Considerable knowledge of theories of human behavior, current diagnostic categories of mental illness, family dynamics, substance abuse and human sexuality.

Knowledge of social, cultural, economic, political, religious, medical, psychological and legal issues which influence behavior of clients, families, service programs and society at large.

Knowledge of statutes, regulations and standards relating to mental health services; state law governing licensed clinical social worker practice standards.

Considerable oral and written communication skills; administrative skills.

Considerable ability to independently apply current psychiatric treatment modalities including but not limited to behavioral, cognitive, object‑relations, crisis intervention and psychosocial rehabilitation approaches.

Ability to integrate theory and case material in assessing and devising comprehensive treatment and/or service plans for difficult and/or complex case assignments; lead task groups including but not limited to treatment teams and agency committees.

Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
One (1) year of experience as a licensed clinical social worker.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Abuse and Neglect Reporting, Notification and Follow‑up to Immediate Protective Service Plans.

Experience providing outpatient treatment for adults with severe mental illness and co‑occurring substance use disorders.

Experience with cultural competence and ability to provide inclusive, client‑centered care.

Experience working in hospital, inpatient or congregate care settings.

Experience with Excel spreadsheets.

Experience transporting clients.

Special Requirements

Incumbents must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20‑195 (m‑z) of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Incumbents must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a‑7b(f).

Incumbents may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired for designated positions.

Incumbents may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication for designated positions.

Incumbents may be required to travel.
