Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist / Certified (Core Lab) | Requisition Number: RE53242 | Department: Laboratory Services (H3200) | Location: Lexington, KY | Grade Level: 11 | Salary Range: $27.00–$45.70 per hour | Type: Staff | Time Status: Full‑Time.
Required Education: Bachelor of Science (BS). No prior experience required. ASCP certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for long periods, occasionally lift or carry objects up to 10 pounds, move objects over 50 pounds, sit at computer workstations, and perform repetitive motions.
Shift: Three 12‑hour shifts per week, rotating shifts including weekends and holidays, may include call based on departmental needs.
Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Certified will perform clinical laboratory testing in a fast‑paced academic medical center. The role supports services to the University of Kentucky’s Level I trauma center, solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center. Duties include, but are not limited to, blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis. The core laboratory serves multiple sites: Chandler, Good Samaritan, ED Satellite, and Markey Satellite.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and document laboratory tests across multiple modalities.
Maintain high quality of service through accuracy and timely result reporting.
Operate state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation and technology.
Collaborate with laboratory staff and other departments.
Assist in quality assurance and quality control activities.
Skills & Knowledge
Exceptional customer service and collaboration skills.
Technical troubleshooting and detail orientation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic health record systems, and medical terminology.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
BS in a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science).
ASCP certification required within 6 months of hire.
No supervisory responsibilities.
