Summary
The Laundry Machine Operator is an integral part of the Laundry's processing team. LMOs set the pace for production throughout the entire laundry facility. The equipment operated by the LMO's includes three large capacity industrial washer extractors and three matching gas fired dryers, four smaller industrial washers and dryers located in the Laundry and Dry‑Cleaning process areas, and three industrial dry‑cleaning units located in the Dry‑Cleaning process area.

Duties

Operates and monitors machines for laundering, dyeing, starching, and treating articles with water repellent and flame retardant. Typically operates six or more machines at one time.

Responsible for weighing loads, loading machines and ensuring that lots remain in the proper sequence.

Trained for safe handling of chemicals, following prescribed safety programs and PPE guidelines.

Keeps the department area and equipment clean, removing lint from lint collector vacuum units on the Braun dryers, cleaning lint screens on dryers, and re‑assembling units daily.

Monitors cleaning results and reports any quality issues to management (overall cleanliness, inadequate or over drying, mechanical issues).

Performs all functions associated with the cleaning and drying process including selecting formulas, starting and stopping equipment, and recording processed poundage.

Weighs slings loaded with towels, sheets, bags, nets, and table linen, records load weight, and lifts loaded slings to the overhead rail storage system for washers.

Loads 1‑3 slings in each Braun washer based on classification and weight of individual slings.

Weighs carts of clothing and linens for processing through washers/ extractors.

Selects the appropriate cleaning formula via the machine programmer according to load classification, then starts washing.

Transfers completed work from washers to dryer tumblers as appropriate.

Ensures that all work transfers to dryers successfully, with no alarms or other issues impeding workflow.

Stages carts at dryer take‑off conveyor and receives loads as they are completed by dryers.

Ensures lot assignment cards stay with proper loads and delivers completed loads to appropriate work areas.

May be required to perform duties in other production areas (Check‑In, Sorting, Shipping, Transportation).

Requirements

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (requires 18 years of age).

Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Verification of employment eligibility in the United States (E‑Verify participant).

Probationary period: one‑year probation for full‑time employees.

Must complete an Occupational Health screening.

Must understand and communicate in English.

Participation in Direct Deposit.

Maintain privacy of official work information and data, and demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct.

Qualifications
Experience performing laundry related duties, including inspecting laundry pieces, determining proper care, using laundry machines and equipment, using chemicals, dying, starching, treating laundry.

Ability to load and unload commercial washers and dryers with a capacity of up to 500 pounds; prior experience preferred.

Knowledge of the effects of water temperature and chemicals on various fabrics processed through the laundry.

Experience reading and following oral and written instructions.

Ability to monitor performance of laundry machines, report issues, and maintain records.
