SCHEDULE
8:00 am – 4:30 pm shifts
Varying weekends (additional $2.00 /hour)
Varying holidays
SUMMARY
Recreation Therapist I : To implement and review recreational therapy activities in order to promote the constructive use of leisure time, physical well‑being and socialization of patients/clients/residents.
Recreation Therapist II : To provide recreational therapy review and evaluation and develop and implement recreational therapy treatment programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications for I
Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) and authorization to use the initials of CTRS.
Recreational Therapist license valid in NH.
Preferred Qualifications for I
None.
Minimum Qualifications for II
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
At least 1 year working as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) and authorization to use the initials of CTRS.
Recreational Therapist license valid in NH.
Preferred Qualifications for II
None.

Broad Group Level Advancement Available: Yes for I, No for II.
Criteria: 29112002BGA02 (Recreation Therapist to Level 3). One year of employment in the current job title, satisfactory performance evaluation within the past 12 months, recommendation for promotion by supervisor(s) and approval by the director of nursing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Recreation Therapist I
Advise staff of recreational activity needs of patients/clients/residents to meet program objectives.
Explain the effect of combining recreational therapy programs with other treatment strategies and activities to recommend appropriate programs.
Update patient/client/resident documentation and evaluation reports to ensure records are current.
Instruct recreational therapy groups to meet program objectives.
Select and store recreational equipment and ensure that equipment is maintained properly.
Participate in conferences with other professionals to discuss and evaluate resident needs.
Recreation Therapist II
Coordinate various recreational treatment programs, including intergenerational activities, community‑based activities, and physical wellness programs.
Supervise and train new staff, providing ongoing support and facilitating training as needed.
Ensure that recreational therapy treatment quality standards are met.
Advise management regarding activities and make appropriate recommendations to improve processes and procedures.
Provide timely resolution of issues and make day‑to‑day decisions as authorized by the program manager.
Consult with other departments and disciplines to devise resident needs plan.
Conduct needs assessment to individualize recreational therapy activities and group programs to improve functional abilities of residents.
Research and recommend new devices and supplies and oversee maintenance of current equipment in use.
