Job Description Summary
Wake Forest Athletics is seeking a Sports Dietitian Fellow to support Olympic sports for a one‑year term. The role will assist the Sports Nutrition Department in program development and serve as the assistant dietitian for Wake Forest Olympic Sports, managing fueling stations, working with multiple teams, delivering 1:1 counseling, providing team education, and handling day‑to‑day nutrition operations.
NOTE:
This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non‑immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions
Assess and counsel student‑athletes on optimal nutritional practices for exercise, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, and legal use of dietary supplements under sport governing bodies.
Independently develop and facilitate team nutrition education sessions.
Manage the fueling station and day‑to‑day nutrition operations, including product inventory, ordering, receiving, and distribution.
Develop and design educational materials and manuals using Canva and PowerPoint.
Perform and interpret nutrition and body composition assessments via DEXA.
Assist in meal planning and menu development for pre‑ and post‑practice snacks, catered snacks, grab‑and‑go snacks, and pre‑ and post‑game meals.
Attend interdisciplinary team meetings discussing clinical and high‑risk cases with sports medicine, sports psychology, and registered dietitians.
Research, evaluate, educate about, recommend, and provide permissible dietary supplements as needed.
Manage nutrition interns, work‑study students, dietetic interns, and volunteers for Olympic Sports.
Perform other responsibilities and team assignments as assigned by the Director of Olympic Sports Nutrition.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration or RD‑eligible.
Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) in the state of North Carolina within one month of hire.
At least one year of sports nutrition experience in collegiate or professional athletics.
Desire to gain clinical and practical experience across a variety of sports.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master’s degree in sports nutrition, exercise physiology, sports psychology, or another health‑related field.
Working knowledge of ACC conference, NCAA, and USADA rules and regulations.
