Summary
This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/06/2026. Time‑in‑grade and experience requirements: Federal employees who have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must meet the required time‑in‑grade by the closing date; for a GS‑05, 52 weeks at the GS‑04 level (any occupation) is required. An SF‑50 showing time‑in‑grade eligibility must accompany the application. If the most recent SF‑50’s effective date is within the past year, an additional SF‑50 demonstrating one year of time‑in‑grade is required. Former federal employees applying for reinstatement or as a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment are subject to the same time‑in‑grade requirement. Applicants may also qualify based on experience or education: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑4 level that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities for performing the duties of this position; or, education—four years above high school in any field where a high‑school diploma is the normal prerequisite, completed at an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university; or, a combination of specialized experience and post‑high‑school education sufficient to demonstrate eligibility. For GS‑05, only education exceeding 60 semester hours (two years) is creditable. Physical requirements for the role include standing and walking throughout the workday, frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100 pounds) and may involve moving heavier items, with proper assistance, that weigh over 40 pounds. The position operates throughout the medical center and its supported catchment areas—including wards, storage buildings, and warehouses with varying environments. Physical hazards include trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, and potential injury. The role involves stocking supplies in primary inventory areas and multiple secondary inventory points, maintaining a clean environment amid dust or infectious pollutants, and may require off‑site support with round‑trip travel exceeding 90 minutes and duty rotations that include afternoon, evening, or overnight shifts. Responsibilities
Serve as Supply Technician (Medical) for the MSD areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System.
Provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material, including sterile and non‑sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
Pull stock inventory and material for delivery.
Replenish stock inventory.
Interact with clinical and administrative customers and maintain records on stock levels.
Communicate concerns related to supplies, equipment, and procedures to the Lead or Supervisor.
Provide information to customers regarding medical supplies.
Monitor expiration dates, rotate stock to limit outdates, and remove items from use as required.
Monitor and control critical supplies.
Perform daily inventory using bar‑coding equipment on a predetermined schedule for timely replenishment.
Resolve differences between records and physical count of stock.
Distribute items in a computerized inventory management system according to established or ad‑hoc requirements.
Deliver supplies in a timely manner, ensuring supplies and material are in sterile and operational condition.
Complete specialty cart preparation.
Clean assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles.
Receive supplies and material into the medical center’s catchment area.
Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (subject to change based on facility needs).
