Eligibility Specialist I
Under direct supervision, applies rules, regulations, and procedures to determine eligibility for public assistance programs for families and children in the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Colorado Works program areas of the Department of Human Services.

Responsibilities

Gather, assemble, and review information from applicants and recipients regarding financial and non‑financial criteria relevant to initial or continued eligibility.

Establish and maintain case files; prepare necessary documentation to initiate, continue, and modify public assistance.

Plan and organize caseload to ensure timely completion of required work according to regulations.

Verify information by direct contact, collateral contacts, phone contacts, and system interfaces.

Interview customers to obtain general case information and request supporting documentation.

Enter and update case/customer information within the automated computer system.

Inform customers of changes in laws or regulations that affect them.

Inform applicants of program requirements and benefits; assist with completing forms, secure documents, notify of appeal rights and procedures; approve or deny applications based on case review.

Perform complex data entry into multiple County and State computer systems, requiring detailed program knowledge.

Provide administrative support, including maintaining records and verifying accuracy.

Partner with service providers and other agencies to achieve positive customer outcomes.

Prepare documentation and cases for presentation at court hearings; serve as representative at county and state evidentiary hearings or appeals; testify as necessary.

Determine need for recovery of funds or referral for fraud investigation and complete reports to appropriate investigative resources.

Assist co‑workers as necessary.

Attend outreach events as needed.

Work mandatory overtime and alternate schedules; may work in other Pueblo County locations.

Perform additional tasks as assigned, including covering for other staff.

Eligibility Specialist II
Under minimal supervision, applies rules, regulations, and procedures to determine eligibility for the same programs.

Responsibilities

Gather, assemble, and review information from applicants and recipients regarding financial and non‑financial criteria relevant to initial or continued eligibility.

Establish and maintain case files; prepare necessary documentation to initiate, continue, and modify public assistance.

Plan and organize caseload to ensure timely completion of required work according to regulations.

Verify information by direct contact, collateral contacts, phone contacts, and system interfaces.

Interview customers to obtain general case information and request supporting documentation.

Enter and update case/customer information within the automated computer system.

Perform additional tasks as assigned, including covering for other staff.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of administrative support or related clerical work.

Special Requirements: Must successfully pass background check.
