MOST 529 College Savings Program

A $2.00 per hour shift differential for qualifying 24/7 congregate care facility shifts between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am

A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend for full‑time work at a qualifying facility

A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend for assignments in restrict housing/segregation units

Responsibilities

Inspects buildings and grounds for fire and safety hazards; identifies and reports hazards; recommends and monitors corrective action; establishes fire and disaster evacuation procedures in cooperation with department heads and the public fire department; instructs facility staff in their implementation.

Investigates accident and injury reports and makes recommendations to prevent future incidents; plans, coordinates, and supervises fire and disaster drills; implements fire and safety requirements established by laws, regulations, codes, and applicable accreditation and certification agencies.

Coordinates safety activities; serves on facility safety committees; identifies and eliminates safety hazards; directs firefighting, evacuation, and rescue operations during fires or other disasters; conducts training in basic firefighting tactics, operation of firefighting equipment, first aid, workplace safety, and emergency procedures.

Monitors construction projects for compliance with facility policies regarding the safety and security of residents, staff, and the public; develops capital improvement recommendations to correct deficiencies in fire and safety standards; prepares and maintains records of recommendations and activities relating to the prevention and elimination of fire and safety hazards.

Exercises independence, judgment, and initiative in the performance of duties; receives general administrative direction; performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Two or more years of experience relevant to the above listed job duties.

High school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university that include credit hours in Fire Science, Industrial Safety, or a closely related field may substitute for required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience, and/or certification, in firefighting, building inspections, or OSHA compliance.

Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, codes, and standards pertaining to fire and safety.

Comprehensive knowledge of modern methods, practices, and techniques of fire prevention, firefighting, and safety.

Comprehensive knowledge of hazardous material management.

Comprehensive knowledge of fire detection and suppression equipment and materials; comprehensive knowledge of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods.

Ability to conduct inspections of buildings and grounds, interpret and explain safety codes and standards to staff, recognize fire and safety hazards, maintain and prepare records and reports, and recommend and monitor corrective action.

Ability to read blueprints, building specifications, floor plans, and similar material.

Ability to analyze accident/injury data, determine trends, prioritize findings, and present recommendations.

Ability to develop contract specifications and supervise building construction as related to safety requirements.

Ability to train others in firefighting, fire prevention, and safety activities.

Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate fire and disaster evacuation plans and drills; ability to perform first aid and CPR.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to meet physical demands of the position.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, fire departments, governmental agencies, and the general public.
