Overview
Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician
The Quality Assurance Technician ensures that the facility and all food and supplement products comply with local and federal safety regulations, internal quality standards, and customer requirements. This role performs sampling, testing, documentation, and auditing activities while actively supporting a strong food safety culture and continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation. The position offers a clear growth path, starting with sampling responsibilities and providing opportunities to advance within the quality team.
Responsibilities
Ensure that the facility and all products meet applicable local and federal food and supplement safety regulations.
Act as a facilitator and coach on Quality Control techniques, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and product quality and safety for plant personnel.
Sample and analyze raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products to verify compliance with established specifications.
Perform cleaning validations and line clearances using ATP and other relevant technologies to confirm sanitation effectiveness.
Assist with internal and external quality audits, including but not limited to GMP and HACCP audits.
Record, evaluate, and interpret test data, promptly alerting the Quality department to any deviations from specifications.
Assist in data collection and analysis to support ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
Partner with plant operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to monitor and verify Good Manufacturing Practices, sanitation, and pest control programs according to policy requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, write, review, and deliver training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Policies, Work Instructions, and Forms.
Work with operations to build and maintain a strong food safety culture, ensuring prerequisite programs are effective in producing safe food and supplement products.
Support the successful execution of customer, regulatory, and certification audits by maintaining accurate documentation and demonstrating compliance.
Perform document control activities, including issuing master manufacturing records, reviewing and approving batch records and work instructions, and ensuring logs and records are completed and maintained accurately.
Review and approve shipping documentation and maintain filing systems to ensure all quality and production records are properly stored and retrievable.
Review and approve laboratory analysis reports for the release of raw materials, in-process products, and finished products.
Uphold and enforce all company GMPs, SOPs, and quality policies on the production floor.
Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on materials and products to identify defects or nonconformances.
Use Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools to track data, generate reports, and support analytical activities.
Communicate effectively with production and other departments to clarify quality requirements, resolve issues, and manage urgent requests.
Take initiative to identify issues, assess situations, and develop practical solutions that support quality and production goals.
Support training and coaching of team members to reinforce quality standards, documentation practices, and food safety requirements.
Perform other quality-related duties as assigned to support the needs of the department and the facility.
Essential Skills
Minimum of a high school diploma.
At least 1 year of quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred 2 years of experience as a quality inspector or quality technician in a manufacturing environment.
Experience working in an FDA-regulated environment.
Experience with federal and state food safety regulations, including HACCP and GFSI.
Experience with food safety and food defense programs.
Hands-on quality assurance experience in food manufacturing or a similar environment.
Knowledge and application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Strong quality inspection skills, including visual inspection and quality checks.
Proficiency in Good Documentation Practices and accurate recordkeeping.
Experience with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data for quality decisions.
Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence others toward quality and food safety goals.
Ability to assess situations and develop effective, practical solutions.

Work Environment
The Quality Assurance Technician works in a fast-paced food and supplement manufacturing facility as part of a collaborative quality team that includes QA specialists, technicians, and leads. The team culture is highly communicative, with a shared understanding that everyone is working toward the same quality and food safety goals. The pace of work can be demanding, with frequent urgencies and requests from other departments, and quality staff play a critical role in preventing and addressing issues. Leadership actively advocates for the quality team by helping balance workloads, pushing back on unrealistic requests when necessary, and spending time on the production floor to provide support. The role involves regular work on the production floor, including standing for full shifts and performing tasks that require walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, reaching, and grasping. The environment includes routine exposure to manufacturing equipment, raw materials, and finished products, and requires attention to sanitation, pest control, and food safety practices. Training is conducted on first shift, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. After training, the regular shift is Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with flexibility required for nights and weekends as needed. The role uses technologies such as ATP testing for cleaning validation and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, for data analysis and reporting. Safety shoes are required in the production area, and the technician must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and differentiate subtle color variances during visual inspections.
