Business Platform Engineer - Supply Chain Technology
OpenAI, Los Angeles, CA, United States
About the Team
The Supply Chain Technology team within OpenAI’s Enterprise Platform & Technology builds and scales the systems and data architecture that power our core supply chain operations. We enable operational agility, visibility, and execution across planning through fulfillment and partner operations. Our focus is on modernizing workflows through strategic integrations, scalable automation, and seamless data flows, empowering better decisions, reliable operations, and sustainable growth as OpenAI evolves.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Business Platform Engineer within our Supply Chain Technology pod to help build the next generation of supply chain systems at OpenAI. In this role, you’ll design and develop backend services, APIs, integrations, data pipelines, and distributed applications that support critical supply chain workflows and partner connectivity. You’ll work on systems that need to be scalable, secure, and resilient, while partnering closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and engineers across the stack.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex systems problems, working across application and data boundaries, and applying strong engineering fundamentals to business‑critical platforms. You should be comfortable moving between architecture, hands‑on development, technical problem‑solving, and operational ownership.
Responsibilities
Designing, building, and optimizing scalable distributed systems using cloud‑native technologies and modern service‑oriented architectures.
Developing backend applications, integrations, APIs, and data services that support core supply chain operations and workflows.
Owning technical delivery across the software lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support.
Improving system reliability, performance, observability, and security across business‑critical platforms.
Partnering closely with product and business stakeholders to deliver robust solutions with a high degree of ownership.
Qualifications
5+ years of professional engineering experience at technology or product‑driven companies.
Proficient in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript, with a strong foundation in distributed systems concepts.
Strong commitment to reliability, safety, and performance in production environments.
Track record of thriving in fast‑growing, product‑driven environments by navigating ambiguity and balancing competing priorities.
Familiarity with event‑driven architectures, asynchronous processing, and systems integration patterns.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
Exposure to modern data platforms, workflow orchestration, or AI‑enabled enterprise tooling is a plus.
Workplace & Location
San Francisco, California (SF)
Compensation
$260K – $288K + Equity
Equal Employment Opportunity Statement
