Registered Nurse II – Night Shift – Pocasset Mental Health Center (2600031F)

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and exceptional Registered Nurses who desire a rewarding career making a difference in the lives of individuals. The Registered Nurse II assesses the health care needs of patients and assures those needs are met. All interactions are person‑centered, utilizing a person‑first approach with safety as the number one priority while acknowledging the dignity of risk. The RN prepares, administers, and documents patient medications and treatment, functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, assumes responsibility for nursing care on the inpatient unit, maintains patient and nursing records, follows all standards and practices of nursing including all DMH facility and nursing policies, accepts responsibilities for patient safety, and supervises staff.

Position is 40 hours per week, night shift 11:15 pm to 7:15 am with rotating weekends off. Days off are Week 1: Sunday and Friday; Week 2: Wednesday and Saturday.

Employees are required to perform mandatory overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transcribe all physicians’ orders and administer medications and treatments to aid patient rehabilitation.

Complete admission assessment and initial nursing care plan based on health and safety issues by the end of the shift.

Provide primary nursing care to an assigned group of patients utilizing the nursing process and following current standards of care.

Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, acting as a resource person regarding patients’ health issues.

Manage and supervise nursing staff in the absence of a registered nurse of a higher grade.

Meet patient nursing care needs as charge nurse or primary nurse by communicating key patient information to appropriate nursing staff to ensure integration, coordination, and continuity of patient care.

Participate in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients to facilitate a smooth transition.

Act as leader or co‑leader of patient treatment groups.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing.

Knowledge of nursing terminology and standard abbreviations.

Knowledge of problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as the mentally, physically, and/or emotionally handicapped.

Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.

Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

At least one year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse by the American Nurses Association.

Bilingual or multilingual candidates.

Compensation
Salary range: $86,385.78 – $144,149.72 yearly, determined by experience, education, and internal compensation structure.
