THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is seeking an ambitious and diligent Clerical Assistant 3 to provide clerical and administrative support within the Bureau of Workers' Compensation Appeals Board to ensure operations are conducted efficiently and effectively, If you are ready to take your career to the next level, we want to meet you!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will provide advanced clerical and technical support to Workers' Compensation Appeal Board (WCAB) Commissioners, performing duties that require independent judgment, knowledge of legal procedures, and a high level of accuracy. You will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and organizing complex legal case files; managing caseloads through the Workers' Compensation Automation and Integration System (WCAIS); and ensuring all testimony, exhibits, and related documents are complete and properly associated with each case. You will also have the opportunity to prepare and finalize draft opinions, coordinate with legal staff to ensure accuracy, publish approved decisions, and issue orders for withdrawn matters. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring virtual hearings
  • Responding to inquiries regarding appeals and procedures
  • Preparing training and travel documentation
  • Maintaining office operations and supplies
  • Processing mail
  • Generating case inventory reports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be expected to report on-site 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
