THE POSITION

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic self-starter with expertise in the masonry trade and a desire to share your knowledge with others? The Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor to join our technical education team. In this rewarding role, you will provide instruction while performing preventive maintenance, repairs, new installations, and construction projects related to the masonry trade at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Benner Township. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will provide both structured classroom and hands-on training in the masonry trade, covering standard practices, methods, and procedures related to the installation, construction, repair, inspection, and maintenance of masonry structures. These may include walls, floors, partitions, steps, foundations, ramps, walkways, roads, curbs, chimneys, and storm drains. Responsibilities include maintaining order and discipline during training and work activities; tracking and documenting inmate progress, attendance, and assignments; supervising and directing inmate work crews as they complete masonry-related tasks; and planning daily schedules while inspecting finished work. This role supports both the effective operation of the facility and the delivery of meaningful vocational training.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in laying brick, blocks, and other types of building materials, and binding with mortar to construct or repair walls; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the masonry trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the masonry trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
