THE POSITION
Step into the role of Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections and support hands-on learning that leads to real progress. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on providing hands-on training and supervision to inmates learning the masonry trade while ensuring safety, structure, and skill development. As a Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Trade Instruction: Teach masonry practices, methods, and procedures through demonstration and careful supervision
  • Work Guidance: Assign tasks, review progress, and check completed work for adherence to masonry standards
  • Active Participation: Assist with journey-level masonry projects and support inmates with complex tasks
  • Tool Management: Issue, collect, and track tools, supplies, and materials used during training and work assignments
  • Security Oversight: Maintain order, monitor inmate conduct, and ensure the work area remains safe and secure
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain training, inventory, maintenance, and attendance records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours will be determined at time of hire.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in laying brick, blocks, and other types of building materials, and binding with mortar to construct or repair walls; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the masonry trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the masonry trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
