DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As the operator of the water treatment plant, you will be responsible for ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of the facility under both routine and emergency conditions. Your duties will include monitoring and adjusting the manual and automated control systems, interpreting readings from various gauges and meters, and performing scheduled and unplanned maintenance to keep the equipment functioning properly. You will also be responsible for operating and maintaining a wide range of auxiliary systems, such as pumps, motors, valves, filters, chlorinators, and aerators, as well as conducting water chemistry tests to determine the appropriate treatment processes. Maintaining accurate logs, chemical inventories, and regulatory records in compliance with the relevant standards is also a crucial part of your role.
Additionally, you will support the overall operation of the plant by completing documentation, submitting purchase requests, recommending equipment upgrades, and maintaining clean and orderly work areas. As a supervisor, you will oversee inmate workers, assigning tasks, monitoring their movement, conducting searches, and ensuring strict adherence to safety, security, and tool-control procedures. Strong communication with supervisors and staff is essential as you address issues, complete daily inventories, and assist with general operational needs. You may also be assigned additional duties to support the smooth and compliant functioning of the water treatment facility.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Wednesday - Sunday
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess a valid certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or higher than a Class C with subclasses 1, 7, 8, and 11.
- You must possess a valid Class E certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators.
- You must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
