Primary Purpose of Position: The Property Security Officer operates within the UNCP University Department of Police and Public Safety. This position is responsible for providing security support and helping enforce policy and procedures to our campus community. This position is responsible for foot patrolling the designated properties and buildings, interior and exterior mainly to the Jones P.E., GPAC and the University Center. This position will also be responsible for monitoring access in each area, checking IDs to confirm that people inside the building are approved to be inside these areas. Hall Entry Cards for each student that enters the building along with guest registration during the assigned work hours. This position may require rotating shift, weekend and/or holiday work. This position may require 0-30 hours per week, depending upon the needs of the department.
Responsibilities
Conduct hourly patrols of building and grounds, secure rooms and building during shift and after business hours and functions, and recognize situations that are not part of normal university operation.
Check for facility issues such as water leaks, electrical problems, inoperable doors, fire hazards, lights out, etc., and notify supervisor or complete a condition report.
Respond to and investigate alarms, determine if there is a problem and the proper authority that needs to respond.
Represent the University Police Department, act as liaison with faculty, staff and students, conduct themselves professionally and be knowledgeable to respond to questions.
Comply with all departmental regulations and policies, document leave requests and timesheets, follow shift supervisor directives, respond to calls for service, maintain uniform and equipment, and help maintain a secure, clean, orderly workplace.
Work special events on UNCP properties, providing general security, foot or vehicle patrols, access control, metal detector setup and operations, parking and traffic control, and other assigned duties.
Assist motorists by complying with protocols and providing assistance; contact telecommunications when unable to provide.
Perform any other duties assigned by the shift supervisor.
Qualifications
Previous experience in security or protection work preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations.
Valid N.C. Driver's License required.
