The Fitter is responsible for the layout, fit, and fabrication of metal components to assemble built-up members, fabrication of structural I-beams, fabricated cold form (thin gauge material), and plate steel. The Fitter will utilize hand tools and welding equipment while following shop details specifications. Whirlwind's goal is to provide fabricated structures for families, congregations, and businesses, in the most efficient manner while maintaining a safe work environment. The role of the Fitter is crucial to the overall manufacturing process of our products.
Key responsibilities include:
Reading blueprints or other specifications to determine the scope of the work and the materials required.
Aligning parts using jacks, turnbuckles, overhead cranes, pins, wedges, and hammers.
Measuring and marking materials to specifications per blueprints.
Identifying parts for assembly in the proper order.
Cutting and washing materials with torches (Oxy Fuel or Plasma) according to specifications.
Tack welding pieces together as needed.
Removing rust, mill scale, and foreign objects using grinder with wire wheel or wire brush to ensure proper cleaning of parts.
Ensuring compliance with regulations, safety standards, and company policies at all times.
Meeting or exceeding daily production goals.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year experience in metal fabrication, fitting, or welding.
Ability to interpret blueprints and other technical drawings.
Ability to utilize hand tools, welding equipment, and other fabrication equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Physical requirements include:
Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods of time.
Ability to work in an environment that may be noisy, and/or require PPE.
