Job Title

This position is responsible for performing police related functions at the IMPD Auto Desk for the City Tow Vendor and provides clerical and information services to the Police Department and citizens.

Position Responsibilities

Performs police related functions for the City Tow Vendor through computer usage and access
Provides clerical and information services to the Police Department and citizens
Operates computer and fax machines to perform daily activities
Makes copies and files documents and records
Performs research on issues and problems that arise related to towed vehicles
Logs and updates various tow related items in the computer and on paper logs within the Auto Desk; verifies entries to ensure accuracy
Communicates (verbal and written) with customers (e.g., department members, citizens, insurance companies, various tow vendors, including the "contracted" city vendor employees, etc.); provides information and explains policies and procedures
Participates in staff meetings and other required in-service training; successfully completes advanced IDACS certification class
Verifies and confirms computer data input is accurate, complete and usable for processing
Enters warrants and takes reports of lost/stolen handguns and missing persons after regular business hours.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be able to type 30 wpm
Must be able to obtain and maintain IDACS/NCIC Certification
Must possess effective communication and computer operation skills
Must be able to understand and be in compliance with department policies and procedures, local ordinances, and state and federal laws, especially as related to vehicle towing
Position requires strict confidentiality
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening (background investigation, drug screen)
Position requires submission to random drug tests
Preferred Job Requirements and Qualifications
Two (2) years' work experience and/or education in clerical, customer service, records maintenance or computer operation preferred
