Job Summary
Reporting to the Leader, External Relations and serving as a key member of the Advancement team, the Senior Development Writer advances the mission of Success Academy Charter Schools by authoring and editing compelling philanthropic narratives and other copy used in major and principal gift/grant proposals, solicitation materials, stewardship reports, bespoke donor correspondence, and similar documents. The incumbent works with executives and teammates to clearly articulate the organization’s mission and impact through storytelling and stewardship, inspiring generosity among donors, institutional funders, and prospective supporters.

Responsibilities

Brings the Success Academy story to life through compelling content that fosters engagement and inspires philanthropic support.

Writes and edits a significant volume of fundraising proposals, case for support, solicitation materials, and stewardship assets.

Develops, adapts, and customizes content that outlines funding priorities and expected outcomes.

Ensures content is consistent in tone, style, and messaging, aligned with SA priorities.

Authors and edits bespoke donor correspondence, newsletters, updates, and donor reports, including the annual Impact Report.

Collaborates with executives and the Advancement team to craft storytelling with fidelity to SA standards.

Serves as a resource to evaluate the writing of others.

Supports stewardship plans, including drafting gift acknowledgements and coordinating VIP communications.

Creates, manages, and tracks proposals and other documents throughout review and approval processes.

Creates and manages templates for proposals, decks, boilerplate language, and department style guides.

Coordinates with Creative Agency, Communications, Advocacy, and other departments on content resources, calendars, and media assets.

Maintains records of distributed donor communications in the donor database.

Stays abreast of SA programs and initiatives to effectively engage donors.

Utilizes Raiser’s Edge NXT database to track and manage bespoke correspondence and stewardship actions.

Participates in and helps staff SA/Advancement events as needed.

Qualifications

Education
Minimum required: Bachelor’s degree. Preferred: an advanced degree.

Experience
Minimum required: 4+ years of persuasive writing, with strong preference for experience writing for fundraising/development. Experience writing on behalf of executives is highly beneficial.

Knowledge
Prior success in donor engagement/stewardship and bespoke communication. Ability to adapt to a range of writing styles under tight timelines. Creative problem‑solving skills. Experience managing projects to meet deadlines. Knowledge of charter schools and education reform beneficial.

Skills
Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading. Strategic thinking and contextual awareness. Ability to manage competing priorities, multitask, and meet deadlines. Analytical skills for data presentation and decision making. Discretion and confidentiality.

Nice to haves
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite). Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar CRM systems.

Personal Qualities
Proactive, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, persuasive, confident, high standards of integrity, and commitment to SA’s mission and culture.

Other requisitos: Passion for the mission, ability to travel locally, occasionally work after hours and on weekends.

Compensation and Benefits
Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience. This position is not bonus eligible. Compensation Range: $95,000 - $120,000 USD. Success Academy offers a full benefits program and opportunities for professional growth.
