(Hiring range depending on qualifications, not anticipated to exceed $5,998 - $7,311 per month)

Work schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.

Department
Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) oversees planning, development, and maintenance of campus facilities and assets. The Building Service Engineers team provides support for custodial, landscape, mechanical, and electrical services across campus.

Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Mechanical Trades Manager for CPFM, the Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Mechanic operates, services, repairs, and inspects refrigeration, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and related mechanical systems across campus buildings. This role emphasizes diagnosing and resolving complex HVAC issues, including advanced refrigeration equipment and building automation systems. The mechanic installs, maintains, services, inspections, repairs mechanical components, electrical control circuits, and electronic and digital control systems connected to campus‑wide HVAC and refrigeration operations. The position requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, a methodical and safety‑focused approach, and consistent delivery of excellent customer service with a professional demeanor when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and campus community.

Essential Qualifications
Two or more years of experience as an HVAC and Refrigeration Mechanic; thorough knowledge of high and low‑pressure chillers, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Proficiency in the operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment, understanding of applicable state and federal safety codes, ventilation principles, thermodynamics, and closed water systems. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems; interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; prepare materials lists and performance sequences; maintain computerized maintenance management systems and produce detailed reports. Excellent customer service skills and effective communication at all organizational levels. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft applications. A satisfactory background check is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a large institutional facility; operation and maintenance of large HVAC systems, piping systems, EMS and BMS, and central plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, turbines, and pumping stations.

License/Certifications
Must have the ability to wear a respirator and work in confined spaces and varied temperatures. This position may carry a master key.
