Position overview
We are seeking an experienced and safety‑driven Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager to lead the daily operations of our wastewater treatment facility. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and fully compliant wastewater treatment operations, while leading and developing the WWTP team and serving as the site’s Chief Operator.
This position is ideal for a hands‑on leader who thrives in a regulated industrial environment and takes ownership of plant performance on a 24x7 basis. You will work closely with the SHE team and regulatory authorities, support environmental projects, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all daily operations of the WWTP, ensuring wastewater is treated efficiently, safely, and discharged within permitted parameters.
Serve as Chief Operator for the site WWTP, directing activities and making operational decisions to maintain 100% regulatory compliance.
Lead, train, and develop WWTP employees, ensuring team knowledge remains current with applicable regulations and operational requirements.
Ensure 24x7 staffing coverage, proactively managing schedules and providing hands‑on support or fill‑in coverage as needed to maintain continuous plant operation.
Monitor process performance, production data, and key metrics to identify risks, investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
Conduct inspections, audits, and follow‑ups to ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and SHE policies, and drive timely closure of corrective actions.
Prepare, review, validate, and submit all required regulatory reports and documentation accurately and on time, and interface with state and federal regulators as required.
Support SHE initiatives and site projects, including remediation, maintenance activities, contractor permits, vendor coordination, and projects focused on process efficiency and cost reduction.
Required skills and experience
5–10 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Qualifications
BS or MS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations.
Minimum Connecticut Wastewater Level 3 certification required, with the ability to obtain Level 4 certification within two years of assuming the role.
Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and using computer systems to submit regulatory information and communicate findings clearly.
Demonstrated ability to manage, train, and develop WWTP personnel.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, including production areas, office environments, and in inclement weather.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform hands‑on operational tasks as required.
Vision (corrected or uncorrected) sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
Hearing sufficient to understand verbal instructions and job‑related communications.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English for documentation, reporting, and follow‑up actions.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Manual dexterity required for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $83k - $120k (depending on experience).
3 weeks’ vacation (prorated this year)
11 holidays a year
