Broiler Manager in Training
Overview
This is a two-year trainee position that is intended to train an individual to become a successful Broiler Manager and assist the Broiler Technical Service Team in executing best broiler management practices. The trainee will work collaboratively with members of the Live Technical Services Team, Complex Leadership, Veterinarians, and Nutritionists. This position will be based at one of Pilgrim’s live operations facilities – this is not a remote position.
Development Plan
First 6 months: work directly with the Head of Broiler Technical Services, including traveling to complexes, attending industry and internal meetings, and completing training as required.
Next 6 months: work under guidance of the Head of Broiler Technical Services, spending about half the time directly with the supervisor.
Final 12 months: work and travel independently, directed by the Head of Broiler Technical Services, with an emphasis on improving broiler performance.
Summary
Develop knowledge and skills for successful transition to Broiler Manager or act as backup.
Gain proficiency in Pilgrim’s Broiler Programs and Best Management Practices.
Support the Head of Broiler Services in oversight and execution of Broiler Programs organization-wide, ensuring effective operation across all 26 complexes.
Report to the Head of Broiler Technical Services; location will be appropriate for candidate and Pilgrim’s.
Participate in meetings, presentations, and special assignments as needed.
Be willing to travel to Pilgrim’s locations, combining automobile and air travel.
Responsibilities
Develop skills & knowledge necessary for successful transition to Broiler Manager.
Implement Pilgrim’s Broiler Program(s) effectively, including:
Brooding Management Program
Standard Controller Operations
Ventilation Programs (based on bird size), including successful completion of summer and winter ventilation training
Lighting Programs (based on bird size)
Waterline / Drinker Management
Litter Management
Broiler Bird Health Evaluations
General knowledge of Pilgrim’s Broiler Grower Agreements
Packers & Stockyard Regulatory Requirements
Provide on-site training of best practices for Broiler Managers & Broiler Service Techs.
Develop farm templates and user applications to support record keeping (M-tech).
Support initiatives to improve Pilgrim’s broiler management approach, including updates to the Broiler Manual, SOPs, etc.
Support Boiler Technical Services in implementation of Best Management Practices.
Assist in planning meetings and educational programs for managers and field techs.
Attend other company meetings and functions, which may involve travel.
Utilize resources to provide analytical analysis, identifying best practices and continued opportunities for improvement.
Develop knowledge of Live Planning to ensure adequate supply of eggs, chicks, birds throughout Live Supply Chain.
Ensure Live Planning meets certification and regulatory standards (NPIP, PVP, etc).
Support Tech Services Team on special projects.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or qualifying experience (Agriculture Degree preferred).
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Basic accounting skills.
Exceptional communication skills.
Ability to travel at least 75% of the time during the program.
Ability to take on difficult tasks and learn from them.
Ability to work with Live Production & Tech Services daily.
