Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist
Valid ARRT®, or RCIS/RCES Certification in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Valid Radiologic Technologist license in compliance with state regulations
PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certification
Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Summary
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians in performing minimally invasive procedures using advanced imaging technology. Responsibilities include preparing patients and equipment, operating imaging modalities such as fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound, maintaining sterility, monitoring vital signs, administering contrast media, ensuring radiation safety, troubleshooting equipment, managing supplies, and collaborating with the care team.
Essential Work Functions
Prepare and position patients for interventional radiology procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
Operate imaging equipment, including fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound, to guide procedures.
Assist physicians by scrubbing in for sterile procedures, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.
Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural details.
Administer contrast media and monitor for adverse reactions.
Ensure proper radiation safety measures for patients, staff, and self.
Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensuring readiness for procedures.
Manage and restock procedural supplies, including catheters, guidewires, and contrast agents.
Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other team members to provide seamless patient care.
Follow all infection control, safety, and regulatory protocols.
Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned to support IR lab operations.
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.
Physical abilities: able to remain stationary, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
Interpersonal skills: effective collaboration with diverse personnel, positive attitude, and professionalism.
Technical/motor skills: fine manipulation, push/pull, movement while assisting procedures, usage of department equipment.
Mental requirements: cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, occasional supervision, manage irregular activity schedules, maintain continuous concentration to detail.
Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication.
