Senior Manager, Critical Operations

Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Critical Operations is responsible for the Data Center facility technical strategy, continuous improvement, and development support for electrical, mechanical, fire‑life safety, and DCIM platforms, collaborating with the Engineering Manager to meet daily facility needs.

On‑site work hours to support a 24×7×365 data center environment; remote or hybrid work is not an option.

Responsibilities

Maintain, establish, and implement facility policies, procedures and organizational structure within boundaries set by senior management and corporate policy while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Develop and maintain efficient maintenance matrixed operations, utilizing governance and standards, in‑house staffing and vendor support to provide 100 % uptime of mechanical, electrical, life‑safety, monitoring and control systems.

Develop emergency response planning, response management and incident reporting for mechanical, electrical, controls and plumbing systems.

Develop, direct and monitor short‑term and long‑term business plans consistent with company profit and growth objectives, establishing operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety and environmental stewardship.

Manage and oversee building and site cleanliness and preservation operations.

Develop and manage effective operating and capital budgets.

Oversee operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements; partner with Development, Sales, Implementation and Solutions Engineers to deploy and maintain customer environments.

Conduct sales and customer tours and audits.

Ensure proactive delivery of corporate services support, power services, COT headcount projections, planning, budgeting, capital projects, maintenance and business continuity/disaster recovery.

Negotiate improvement project contracts on leased and owned real‑estate as needed.

Confer with professional operations staff subject‑matter experts to resolve operational problems, develop and authorize procedures, and approve major estimates.

Use comparative evaluations of mechanical, electrical and controls systems performance and KPIs to benchmark and apply best practices for operational effectiveness.

Ensure compliance of mechanical, electrical, controls, monitoring and fire‑life safety systems with all governmental regulatory guidelines.

Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses, permits and certifications.

Supervise, train, develop and coach employees; work with direct reports to establish performance goals, monitor progress and advise professional development.

Facilitate data‑center space and cable‑plant design, implementation and maintenance.

Ensure teams performing equipment installs, ticket management, communications and incident resolution complete tasks in a timely manner.

Basic Qualifications

Five or more years of workplace or professional equivalent experience.

Five or more years of people‑leadership experience.

Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, architecture, military schooling or professional equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Ten or more years of data‑center environment or professional equivalent experience.

Five or more years of people‑leadership experience in a data‑center environment.

Master’s degree in business, engineering, architecture, military schooling or professional equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exceptional customer service skills.

Analytical ability to evaluate system operations, diagnose problems and implement corrective actions.

Capability to manage complex situations during off‑management hours as a single point of contact.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to effectively lead a team.

Commitment to acquiring and applying job‑related knowledge within guidelines and expectations.

Physical demands may include frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching and lifting; lifting ranges from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, with heavier weights using assistance or aids.
