Contract Manager

In this role, you will lead a team to manage subcontracts and monitor operations. You will develop the subcontracting strategy, operating procedures, staffing plan, and the contracts section. You will review and approve bid details, commitments, and negotiations. Your oversight will ensure project subcontracting is consistent and that requirements have been implemented.

Major Responsibilities

Participates with the project team on a large project in defining and developing the scope of contracts work, and in preparing and coordinating contract plans, procedures, schedules, estimates, forecasts, and budgets.

Contributes contracts input to the preparation and/or modifications of the project’s prime contract.

Prepares and/or directs preparation of commercial terms and conditions for use on all project contract documents, ensuring that requirements of the prime contract are incorporated.

Coordinates contract execution plan with engineering and construction plans and operations to ensure that input from these disciplines will enable contracts to perform its functions in accordance with project plans.

Reviews commitment approvals and execution/signature authorities and ensures commitments are made in accordance with corporate and contract policies and procedures.

Manages the subcontract for a contract of medium risk or complexity.

Develops and implements a Subcontract Management Program for the project consistent with the Standard Work Process Procedures and the Subcontract/Contract Management Guidebook.

Analyzes the subcontract commercial terms and conditions to highlight areas of risk such as ambiguities, conflicts, or deviations from the scope of work.

Makes recommendations to the Site Manager on the mitigation of these risks and closely monitors and supports remedial actions and recommend appropriate tradeoffs.

Works with the other project team members to ensure that Bechtel or customer related actions or inactions which could result in constructive subcontract changes are identified and make recommendations on their resolution.

Maintains a working relationship with Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Legal, and Risk Management to facilitate organizational interfaces between those performing subcontract administration.

Adheres to subcontract insurance provisions and to ensure implementation of any requirements in this regard with Regional and Corporate Risk Management personnel.

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Proven ability to lead subcontract operations and manage multiple subcontracts simultaneously.

Strong negotiation and analytical skills to resolve commercial issues and manage risk.

Effective written and verbal communication skills for contractual correspondence and stakeholder coordination.

Proficiency in contract management systems and digital supply chain tools.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain complete, audit ready contract files. Knowledge of subcontract formation and administration across the full contract lifecycle.

Strong understanding of commercial terms and conditions, risk management, insurance, and bonding requirements.

Familiarity with construction execution practices, subcontractor field administration, and project interfaces.

Knowledge of applicable labor agreements, regulatory requirements, and company contracting procedures.
