
Instrument Fitter
Turner Industries, Kingsport, TN, United States
Instrument Fitters will be responsible for planning layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of instruments, both electronic and pneumatic, including primary piping and tubing. The role is non‑exempt, reports to the Foreman, and assigned duties according to specific procedures with work frequently checked.
Essential Qualifications
High school or equivalent
One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
Basic knowledge of pipe threading
NCCER certification may be required on some job sites
Post‑offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
Functional Requirements
Selects type and size of pipe and related material according to job specification; installs new, modifies or repairs existing installations; measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs primary piping and tubing; installs tubing, multitude bundles, junction boxes, instruments, both electronic and pneumatic, air piping and tubing; connects all piping and tubing to equipment; leak tests all piping and tubing installed; observes all installed instrument and systems to determine hazards, need for adjustment, relocation or replacement; may repair faulty equipment or systems; minimizes waste of material and avoids unsightly, hazardous or unreliable installations.
Compensation
Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement
May require climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment; standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; using stepstool; working in excessive heat, excessive cold, or loud environment.
