Riley Pediatric Dentistry is seeking an Expanded Function Dental Assistant for our growing team. This is a rewarding career for individuals who are passionate about helping the children of Indiana. This position
is full time, days. The shift is Monday - Friday at Riley Children's Dental Clinic.
Responsibilities
Perform advanced dental care services in a clinical setting under the direction of a Dentist.
Ensure accurate collection and reporting of patient intake data, medical history, cognitive/emotional diagnosis, and clinical care provided.
Prioritize patient care based on resources, unit volume, and patient prognosis; facilitate smooth patient flow and patient education/teaching.
Explain insurance coverage and co-pays; ensure necessary documents are complete.
Prepare and arrange instruments, equipment, and supplies in the treatment area prior to each procedure.
Assist dentist/hygienist as directed and perform advanced expanded functions, place restorations and fit bands/brackets/appliances.
Provide bedside dental assisting in cases pertaining to general anesthesia dentistry.
Obtain diagnostic dental X-rays as directed by Dentist/Hygienist using safe radiology processes.
Use advanced behavior management techniques to support safe and effective care with uncooperative patients.
Identify and respond to medical emergencies; maintain, organize, stock, and clean dental equipment and units.
Oversee aseptic/sterile processing of dental instruments, reusable supplies, and equipment per regulatory requirements and infection control policies.
Perform administrative and registration duties; schedule patient visits and engage in patient correspondence.
Mentor and precept professional skills, techniques, and behaviors in others; perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED is required.
3–5 years of relevant experience required.
BLS-CPR certification required.
Dental Radiology License in Indiana required.
Certification in Expanded Function Dental Assisting from an accredited program, or on-the-job training with a minimum of 5 years experience in Dental Assisting required.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Certification in Caries Prevention and Coronal Polishing preferred.
Excellent skills in handling apprehensive or difficult-to-manage children.
Ability to work with medically, physically, and/or cognitively compromised patients.
Ability to treat patients with special health needs, cognitive needs, and/or extreme dental fear.
