A Day in the Life
As a Laboratory Intern based in our Orange, CA Laboratory, you’ll learn by doing. You’ll collaborate with a strong team of committed professionals, contribute to meaningful scientific work, and grow your expertise in a dynamic, quality-driven environment. In this role, you'll prep and handle samples, sharpen your recordkeeping and learn how every task builds real lab instinct. You'll be supporting accurate, on‑time results while you learn the standards that make it all work.
We’re looking for a Laboratory Intern—curious, hands‑on, and ready to step into the lab.
The compensation for this role is $16.90/hr, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
Department: Semi‑Volatiles (SVOA)
Schedule: 40 hours/week during school breaks, 20 hours/week during semester
Internship Term: 6 months
Responsibilities
Preparing samples for digestion or extraction as needed (includes but is not limited to: weighing soils, making composites, crushing samples, incremental sampling, product sampling, etc)
Washing glassware
Preparing reagents as needed
Conducting simple water quality assays
Data entry
Perform support tasks as needed
Comply with Quality Assurance Program and other policies
Comply with Health and Safety Plan
Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director
Your Expertise and Skills
High School Diploma
Currently enrolled in a local University
Basic laboratory techniques (knowledge of PPE, use of balance, pipetting, glassware handling, etc)
Basic Excel skills required
Must have ability to follow directions and work in a team setting
Must be comfortable working with strong acids and solvents
Excellent communication skills required
Detail oriented
Prior Laboratory experience preferred but not required as this is an intern position
Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
Ability to work independently and in a team
Good organizational skills and strong communication skills
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, and walking
Lifting up to 50 pounds routinely and to lift/handle smaller weight items throughout the day
Works in an office and/or laboratory environment
