
Medical Assistant - Urgent Care, Full-Time, Days

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system. UChicago Medicine Medical Group, Dearborn Station clinic, seeks a Medical Assistant to join our Urgent Care team. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area.
UChicago Medicine Dearborn Station offers comprehensive primary care for the whole family with experts in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and general pediatrics.
Responsibilities
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including managing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with walking transfers, preparing for exams, collecting specimens (blood draws if required by practice), taking patient history, performing screenings per provider guidelines, assisting physicians
urses with procedures, charting, relaying instructions to patients/families, answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, collecting co-pays, and updating charts to ensure information is complete and filed appropriately.
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned, including setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam/procedure rooms between patient visits, maintaining infection control, cleaning sterilizers per schedule, ordering and stocking supplies, and restocking rooms.
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, including respecting/promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and communicating patient/staff concerns to the immediate supervisor.
Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that vary by state law, including asepsis, sterilization, instrument preparation, vital signs, clinical pharmacology, medication administration, prescription verifications, minor surgery assistance, biohazard waste disposal, patient education, laboratory procedures (OSHA guidelines, CLIA-waived testing, sample collection), and electrocardiography.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant program
Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association
Phlebotomy training; Phlebotomist license and work experience if required by practice
Minimum of one year of recent experience in a medical office/facility
Experience with practice specialty
Able to partner with teams in small to large practice groups
Certified Medical Assistant
Preferred Qualifications
Strong communication, prioritization, and organizational skills
General working knowledge of PC software (Excel, Word) and EPIC
Experience with computerized appointment scheduling
Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment
Discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians
Physical ability to stock, lift, and transport supplies and instruments

Job Type/FTE: Full-Time 1.0 FTE
Shift: Days, 8 am – 8 pm, every other weekend
Work Location: Onsite – Dearborn Station
Unit/Department: Urgent Care

In this role, you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week, with a rotating shift between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm and no on-call shifts. You will be scheduled 100% at the Dearborn Station Clinic, with weekend work every other Saturday and Sunday.
