The Research Assistant II supports the Radiation Oncology - Research department within the Division of Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Research Assistant II is an integral member of a multidisciplinary laboratory team focused on mathematical and computational modeling of tumor growth and radiation therapy. The Research Assistant II collaborates closely with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, students, and research staff to support the design, execution, and analysis of research studies while ensuring adherence to institutional policies and safety standards.

In this role, the Research Assistant II contributes directly to MD Anderson's mission by supporting innovative research efforts that advance the understanding and optimization of radiation therapy. The Research Assistant II also plays an important role in maintaining research operations, managing data integrity, and communicating scientific findings to professional audiences.

The ideal candidate for the Research Assistant II role holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and has experience in computational research. Experience with numerical simulations of partial differential equations is preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, effective written and oral communication, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate in a research-focused team environment.

Minimum $21.63 - Midpoint $27.16 - Maximum $32.69 per hour.

Responsibilities
Research Modeling & Analysis

Develop and numerically solve ordinary and partial differential equation models related to tumor growth and radiation therapy.

Simulate, calibrate, and validate mathematical and computational models.

Analyze and interpret computational and experimental research data.

Data Management & Scientific Support

Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of experimental results.

Support data abstraction, data curation, data analysis, and interpretation activities.

Ensure data integrity and confidentiality through quality assurance practices.

Research Coordination & Collaboration

Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, co-investigators, and research partners.

Assist in managing research studies and addressing protocol requirements.

Facilitate execution of research plans in alignment with policies and procedures.

Scientific Communication & Dissemination

Prepare materials supporting manuscript development and scientific publications.

Present research findings to professional and scientific audiences.

Laboratory Operations & Safety

Organize and coordinate research activities to support smooth laboratory operations.

Manage laboratory equipment and enforce safety protocols.

Education

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Basic Science.

Preferred: Master's Degree in Basic Science.

Preferred: Medical Degree.

Work Experience

Required: 1 year scientific or experimental research work experience.

Required: No experience required with preferred degree.

Preferred: Experience in numerical simulations of partial differential equations.
