12-hours Days 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; rotating weekends and holidays

Responsibilities
As a Patient Safety Attendant at MercyOne, you will support the provision of a safe environment for patients by providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. The first line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at‑risk behaviors and notify professional staff of the patient’s needs and/or alert them in case of an emergency. You will document on the observation flow sheet and assist licensed nursing staff with care as delegated and identified on the Safety Attendant information sheet.

General Requirements

Always maintain visual observation.

Verbally redirect patient in person or over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.

Immediately summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to the patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN.

Collect verbal report, updated/accurate information form and observation record from licensed nurse before assuming observation care of the patient.

Ensure Safety Attendant Information Sheet is completed and appropriate for each assignment.

Document every 15‑30 minutes, as appropriate, on Observation Flow Sheet.

Participate in hand‑off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.

Inform nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.

Education

High School Diploma preferred.

Previous work in a hospital or a college student in a medical discipline helpful.

Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
