Job Purpose And Summary

In our retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting pharmacy teams and delivering a consistent brand promise.

Responsibilities

Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.

Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.

Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and creating personalized moments while serving patients in person and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; solve or escalate patient problems with compassionate care.

Perform basic inventory activities as permitted by law, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and waiting‑bin inventories.

Engage in a high‑performing team, embrace growth, seek feedback, and expand clinical and technical knowledge.

Remain flexible for scheduling, business needs, and volitionally travel to stores in the market when required.

Understand and comply with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; follow CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance compliance, and privacy protection.

Deliver additional patient health care services, such as immunizations and point‑of‑care testing, and volunteer at off‑site clinics where allowed by law and training.

Immunization Responsibilities

Complete additional licensure and training required by state regulations to obtain Technician Immunizer status.

Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer them to pharmacists for questions.

Monitor for adverse reactions and report them per public health requirements.

Review and track patient information, documenting for each applicable patient.

Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.

Required Qualifications

Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.

If the state board does not address or mandate a minimum age, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age.

If the state board does not require a minimum educational level, the applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or an equivalency program.

State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary; refer to the board’s website for details.

Essential Functions

Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.

Complete required training within the designated timeframe.

Attention and Focus:

Concentrate on tasks over time.

Pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.

Confirm prescription information and labeling for patient safety.

Customer Service and Team Orientation:

Actively help people in a friendly manner.

Notice and understand patient reactions, responding appropriately.

Communication Skills:

Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.

Employ active listening, ask questions when appropriate, and avoid interrupting.

Mathematical Reasoning:

Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets, day’s supply, or the number of full and partial bottles needed.

Problem Resolution:

Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action among alternatives.

Physical Demands:

Remain mobile and upright for extended periods.

Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead or with arms and legs to grasp items.

Move fingers repetitively for typing and other finger‑centric tasks.

Perform tasks requiring precision and rapid machine adjustments.

Lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently, with minimal exertion for light tasks.

Use verbal communication for detailed or important instructions, and receive detailed oral information accurately.

Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

1–3 years of previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.

Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations.
