Salk Institute Office of Technology Development, San Diego, CA, United States
The Research Assistant I will work as part of a team with the goal of using epigenomics to create an atlas of the human brain at single-cell resolution, through both sequencing and imaging. This position will involve training in specialized techniques related to the Ecker lab focus of single cell multiomics. Main duties for this position may include large-scale generation of methylation sequencing libraries using a robotic pipetting system, Cryostat sectioning and fluorescence imaging for spatial transcriptomics through MERSCOPE, nuclei production and sorting, and treatment of nuclei to evaluate chromatin conformation. Other duties include general laboratory maintenance, coordination with collaborators and FACS core for cell sorting, participation in regular team meetings to discuss progress, and well-organized LIMS and data recording.
The Research Assistant I will work closely with lab staff and scientists in the laboratory to support ongoing research efforts.
This position requires strong experimental skills, including sterile technique, molecular cloning, DNA and RNA preparation, gel electrophoresis, genotyping, PCR, root sectioning and microscopy. It requires careful attention to detail and the ability to effectively balance research support responsibilities within a collaborative scientific environment.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Perform duties to support experiments on a variety of experiments, using bisulfite sequencing, magnetic bead DNA purification and PCR.
Perform tissue sectioning with Cryostat
Fluorescence staining protocols for imaging
Isolate cellular nuclei from brain tissue
Chromatin assays
Sample tracking and scheduling
Coordination with others for sample processing
Updating LIMS as necessary with sample information
