About the Division of Youth Services
The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is mandated to provide care and supervision of youth who have been committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities serving youth ages 10 to 21 who are pre‑adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. It also contracts with private residential and non‑residential service providers throughout the state and manages the Colorado Youth Detention Continuum, a program that provides services to youth at risk of further progression into the juvenile justice system. In addition, DYS administers juvenile parole services statewide.

Job Summary
This position functions as a mental health counselor and case manager for committed and detained youth in the Division of Youth Services. Services include clinical assessment, medication monitoring, individual, group, family, and milieu therapies, suicide risk assessment, reporting, and coordination with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Maintain a caseload and conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions using evidence‑based treatment theories for adolescents.
Apply knowledge of adolescent development, cultural, and developmental needs to inform interventions.
Use strength‑based and holistic approaches to treat mental health, substance abuse, trauma, and related issues.
Collaborate with medical teams, psychiatrists, educational/vocational staff, and other interdisciplinary partners to address psychotropic medication, academic services, and community resources.
Document and assess the effectiveness of interventions and report to the Fusion Electronic Health Record system.
Assist in creating individualized growth and change plans and facilitate Community Review Teams.
Conduct assessment and treatment planning, including brief mental health status exams, suicide risk assessment, and alternative intervention development for youth not responding positively to treatment.
Provide training and consultation to staff on best‑practice therapeutic delivery and stay current on literature, research, and federal and state regulations.
Prepare treatment notes in the approved DAP format for all individual and group sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid Colorado or state licensure participating in the Social Work Licensure Compact as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC).
At least one (1) year of experience holding the required license in a similar role.
Minimum age 21 years, no felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
Full background and reference checks required; must be a California resident at time of application and throughout employment.
Must possess a valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license and complete required pre‑service and ongoing training.
Preferred Qualifications
Relatable experience as a current or former State of Colorado employee.
Conditions of Employment
Full employment contingent on completion of the DYS Pre‑service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training.
Applicant must complete the Diana Screen, a sexual risk screening tool used as part of the selection process.
