Job Summary
You will provide routine patient care on a 24‑bed General Adult Medical‑Surgical Unit, supporting patients with a wide range of conditions including acute and chronic kidney disease, liver disease, COPD, heart failure, diabetes, infections, and post‑surgical recovery. Your responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, collecting patient data, providing basic nursing support, and maintaining unit efficiency through clerical and supply tasks. You will operate under the supervision of a licensed professional and work as a valued member of the nursing team.
Core Functions
Assist patients with activities of daily living, ensuring optimal hygiene, mobility, and nutrition.
Collect patient specimens and data (vital signs, input/output, other delegated measurements) and document all findings accurately.
Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status to the appropriate licensed professional.
Perform procedures and use equipment delegated by a licensed professional, such as blood draws and EKGs.
Execute clerical duties, including patient charting, physician order processing, and supply requisitions, to support smooth unit operations.
Maintain complete patient records, ensuring all documentation is properly scanned, filed, and labeled.
Reconcile and monitor supplies, equipment, and documentation to ensure availability and accountability.
Assist with patient transport, including pre‑operative and immediate post‑operative transfers to critical care units, and support operating room turnover as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in the state of practice (required for new hires). State‑specific requirements noted for Tucson suburbs.
One year of medical clerical experience preferred; experience in a hospital or clinician office setting highly desirable.
Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills.
Depending on assignment, a minimum passing score of 85% on an ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of lethal dysrhythmias or epileptiform activity may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
Recent healthcare experience.
Completion of an approved unit secretary program.
