
Deer Research Technician-Louisiana

Position Summary
The technician will assist with the capture of adult and juvenile white-tailed deer using various techniques, immobilizing captured animals, monitoring them via radio telemetry, and investigating related mortality events. The role also involves data collection and management and interaction with state agency personnel and private landowners.
Responsibilities
Capture adult and juvenile white-tailed deer using approved techniques.
Immobilize captured animals for safe handling.
Monitor animals via radio telemetry and GPS technologies.
Assist in investigating mortality events associated with the deer.
Collect and manage field data accurately.
Communicate with state agency personnel and private landowners in a professional manner.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, Biology, or a closely related field.
Experience with deer capture and handling.
Working knowledge of radio‑telemetry and GPS technologies.
Attention to detail in data collection and equipment organization.
Capacity to work long hours in field conditions, including odd hours and potential stress.
Strong interpersonal skills for representing the project to private landowners.
Physical Demands
Driving 4‑wheel drive vehicles.
Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Prolonged fieldwork and office duties.
